Brideshead Revisited

Based on the classic 1945 novel by English writer Evelyn Waugh, Brideshead Revisited tells the tale of Charles Ryder, a budding artist. As the Second World War rages on, Charles, a captain in the British military, finds himself setting up house at the familiar Brideshead estate. Flooded with memories of his youth, the story switches to Charles days at Oxford University where he meets Lord Sebastian Flyte, a young male of aristocratic blood. Though from different worlds, the boys develop a deep and almost questionable relationship. After a light injury, Charles stays the summer with the wounded Sebastian and his devote Catholic family at the Brideshead estate. Upon meeting Sebastian's sister, Julia Flyte, she, her brother, and Charles embark on a summer of hedonism and mischief, but as feelings stir and advances are made, their happiness only lasts so long. As the years progress, ambitions are thwarted, relationships disintegrate, illness prevails, and rage surges, but everything continues to come back to Brideshead.
Starring Matthew Goode, Emma Thompson, Michael Gambon, Ben Whishaw and Hayley Atwell, the film opened July 25th, 2008 to North American audience, and October 3rd, 2008 in the UK. Running 133 minutes, and having a budget of 20 million pounds, the film grossed $332,000 in its first week, placing 19th at the box office.
